Frenship ISD recently hosted its second annual Special Education Game Day, bringing together elementary and middle school Life Skills and Special Education students for a day full of fun, games, and unforgettable memories. The event is designed to provide students with opportunities to participate in a safe, inclusive environment where they can shine.
This year’s Game Day featured multiple activity stations, including basketball, bowling, parachute games, and more, ensuring that every student could find something they enjoyed and excel in. The variety of activities allowed students to showcase their skills while having fun alongside their peers.
Jennifer Pierce, Frenship’s Director of Special Education, loves seeing the joy that the game day brings to students and families.
“My favorite part is watching the kids' faces and just knowing that they're in a safe and inclusive environment, and watching their parents get to play with them. That's super fun, and that's not something we always get to do.”
Pierce believes events like this give special education students a welcoming and supportive space to just be themselves.
“Days like today are important because special education students need to feel that they are just regular kids, and today, they can just be regular kids and be themselves, and we create an environment for them that is safe and inclusive,” said Pierce.
Frenship High School and Frenship Memorial High School student groups also played a key role in making the day special. FHS Senior Emyrson Parrott loves seeing the impact that she makes when volunteering her time.
“My favorite part about today was interacting with all the kids and knowing that the way I treat them has an impact on them,” said Parrott. “This is just an awesome opportunity to get new perspectives, and the kids just love it so much, and it's so much fun to see them have fun.”
Pierce also acknowledged the many volunteers and staff who helped make the event possible.
“There are so many people who help with Game Day, we have tons of volunteers that we are so grateful for. The people in my office do a lot of work behind the scenes, leading up to the event. There are so many people who make this happen for these kiddos, and we appreciate them so very much,” said Pierce.
The event was supported by local sponsor, Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc., whose contributions helped provide t-shirts for every student, and other resources to ensure the day ran smoothly.
Frenship ISD’s Special Education Game Day is more than just a day of fun; it is a celebration of inclusion and community, allowing students and families to share in the joy of learning and playing together.
Frenship’s next big Special Education event, the Region 17 Field Day, will be held on Tuesday, October 14, for middle and high school students at Peoples Bank Stadium.
