Frenship Teacher Recognized as Wayland Baptist University B.E.S.T Award Recipient

The Wayland Baptist B.E.S.T. Award recognizes Baptist educators who live out their faith daily while upholding the mission of the Texas Baptist universities that influenced their paths.

Amy Moss, who serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Frenship High School and Frenship’s Coordinator for Secondary Vocal and Elementary Music, was recently honored for her outstanding contributions to music education and her dedication to both her students and the community.

“This recognition highlights the incredible dedication of Amy Moss and her lasting influence on the students she serves,” said Jeffrey Vera, Wayland Baptist Director of Alumni Relations and Career Services. “We are proud to honor her during Homecoming and celebrate her achievements alongside her family, friends, and fellow alumni.”

While Moss was an undergraduate student at Wayland Baptist University, she felt a calling to work with young people. As she was working on her Bachelor Degree of Fine Arts in Music, she spent several months praying about her decision to switch to the education route.

“My choir director and conducting professor, Dr. Scott Herrington, encouraged me to consider Music Education as a great option that would fulfill that calling. I switched to a Music Education degree at the end of that year,” said Moss.

Moss is currently in her 18th year of teaching and her 8th year at Frenship High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree in Choral Studies from Wayland Baptist University and a Master of Music Education and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Texas Tech University.

Moss feels very grateful to be in the Frenship family and teach the next generation of musicians.

“During my time at Frenship, I have had the wonderful privilege to work with some of the best students, colleagues, and administrators of my entire teaching career. I am immensely grateful for the incredible support and opportunities our district has provided our students and our program. I believe strongly in the culture of excellence and service our district pursues.”

Moss shares that her time at Frenship has shaped her to be a passionate educator and strong leader. She is thankful for the opportunities she has had to further her own skills as a teacher.

“During my time at Frenship, I’ve been challenged to grow in my leadership abilities, and to work to get to the heart of relationship building with my students. I’ve also been challenged to grow in my own musicianship skills,” said Moss. “Some days, I feel as if I’m one step ahead of my incredibly gifted students. They push me every day to strive to be my best! Because of how gifted and hungry our students are, I’ve had the wonderful blessing of teaching and conducting some bucket-list pieces. I’m proud to be part of Frenship and as always, it’s a great day to be a Tiger!”

Moss was honored at the annual Wayland Baptist Blue and Gold Banquet earlier this month. When she found out she was one of the educators selected for the 2024 B.E.S.T. Award, she felt blessed and honored.

“I was incredibly honored when I found out about the award,” said Moss. “I’m not much for a lot of attention on me. But if it’s a way to highlight how good God is, and how His goodness can impact others through someone as insignificant as me, I’m ok with that.”

She shares that this award serves as a reminder that educators may not always see the immediate impact of the seeds they plant, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t growing.

“It was a needed reminder that the investment of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-discipline pay dividends in the future. As educators, we don’t always see the results of those investments in our students right away, but that doesn’t mean the impact is any less,” said Moss.

The B.E.S.T. Award is a meaningful reminder for Moss of the impact educators can have, both in and out of the classroom.

“It’s an encouragement to continue operating in a manner worthy of the calling I’ve received. I’m reminded to continue to show up, to be salt and light, and to make the most of each moment with my students, colleagues, and with whomever I have contact,” said Moss.

Frenship is proud to celebrate Amy Moss and the profound impact she has on her students, colleagues, and the community. Her dedication to excellence in music education, leadership, and faith-driven service exemplifies the values that make Frenship an exceptional place to learn and grow. The district is honored to have educators like Moss who inspire students daily and embody the culture of excellence that defines Frenship ISD.

Congratulations, Amy Moss!
