North Ridge Elementary Choir Steals the Show at Lady Raiders Basketball Game

Earlier this school year, North Ridge music teacher Frances Smith says she received an invitation from Texas Tech University for the North Ridge Honor Choir to perform at the February 14 Lady Raider basketball game.

After talking with their principals, she says they jumped on the opportunity. “The students were both nervous and excited,” said Smith.

Smith says they began practicing the National Anthem last month when the students returned from winter break.  “I told them they are ready and that they have the support from family and friends who would be there to watch the performance.”

Tuesday’s special performance on the court wasn't the only time these students have dazzled audiences this year. Back in December, the choir traveled to the Casey Administration Building to sing Christmas carols to central office staff. They also made a special stop at the Brookdale Assisted Living Center to sing carols and pass out Christmas cards to the residents.

Smith says the Lady Raiders game was just the beginning of the spring events for the students. The North Ridge Honor Choir will hold a Spring Concert later this semester and they also hope to visit more nursing homes before the end of the school year.
