In an effort to continue bringing new and innovate ideas into the classrooms, several Frenship educators attended the Texas Computer Educators Association (TCEA) Convention last week in Austin, Texas.

With more than 1,000 presentations and workshops, Frenship’s media specialists had the opportunity to learn about new technology, apps, and other tools to keep students engaged in learning. Sessions included topics such as Literacy and Library Services, Instructional Design, Technology Applications, and much more.

“This is the best professional development opportunity for educators wanting to learn about the latest tools and how to incorporate them into classrooms,” said Allison Robertson, Legacy Elementary media specialist.

 “I loved every minute,” added North Ridge Elementary media specialist Bridgett Turner. “The amount of open source resources we have are priceless.”

A few of their favorites included new apps aimed at helping young readers connect to the stories and a new ‘robot’ that helps pre-k and kindergarten students practice sequencing, estimation and problem solving.

While there, first time attendee Haley Beardemphl tried to soak in as much information as possible.

“It was amazing and an overwhelming wealth of knowledge. I was so busy jetting from one class to another,” said Beardemphl, Crestview Elementary media specialist. “The most exciting thing for me was learning new things offered in the field of educational technology and bringing those things to the teachers and students I serve.”

The Frenship media specialists say they’ll share the strategies and resources with their campuses to hopefully bring some excitement and new lesson ideas to the students.
