North Ridge Elementary and Texas Tech are bringing students together through a literacy program that benefits both the elementary and the college students.

Texas Tech instructor, Dawn Burke, M.Ed., coordinated with North Ridge to offer first-hand experience to her teacher candidate students.

“It’s a great way for the teacher candidate to get hands-on experience in teaching writing,” said Burke. “It gives elementary students some individual attention and time to practice writing.”

The Tech students come to North Ridge every Monday where they work with the younger students as part of their Language and Literacy Acquisition (Writing in the Elementary Classroom) coursework. The Tech students are in their third year of curriculum.
